I have tried the Hammer build.
I have played it in both PvP and PvE, from my experience, in PvE, I just can not take any damage at all, what do you guys for defence? I used one of the stance, but the time it lasted, did not allow me time to kill all that are threats to me.
PvP wise, I find it very fun, I was one on one with a warrior, with a pet, I almost beat her if her friend hadn't came and aided her, well I really enjoyed it.

try combining winter, greater conflagration (sp?), and the best drakescale armor you can get your hands on (the 1.5k version is enough). you'll instantly have 146ish armor vs everything in the range of the two spirits.

sorry, i should clarify. i'm apparently incorrect on some points
first, i meant to say fur-lined (or frostbound, if you can afford it. personally i think they look identical), not drakescale. second, greater conflagration converts all physical damage to fire damage, with is an elemental damage. winter then converts all elemental damage (including the converted fire damage from physical damage) into ice damage. now, all ranger gear has +30 vs elemental, and fur-lined has an additional +15 vs cold. add a shield into the mix (if you want), and a few defensive shouts/enchant buffs, you'll be running around with 140+ AL vs EVERYTHING.

in the cases of pvp, I've never bothered w/ greater/winter combo. I don't feel like sparing 7+k for a spirit and armor that I'd usely extremely rarely. Maybe when I strike gold doing FoW farming.
In PvE, though it sounds good. Still, probably not worth the budget since warrior can farm just fine.
BTW rangers w/ hammers aren't for pve. I mean they could potentially be viable but other things such as traps will work so much better.
I go all out offense in random arenas. RA doesn't matter whether you win or lose, it's just for fun, and I have more fun killing people.

I am thinking, could a Ranger/W allowed to use damage reduction runes on their armour?
Or, on the shield?

I don't believe so, but don't take my word for it.
I'm actually planning on switching my secondary to Warrior whenever I decide to ascend my Ranger, and maybe Necro too... just for the hell of it. Also, for anyone who says that Rangers are good at running... they are. I'm running a R/Mo ATM, and I've run places that I didn't even think it was possible for me too. At one point, I wanted to get up to the War Camp so I fought my way up to Rankor (EXP FTW!) and saw this group where everyone was running to the camp together for free. So, of course I joined up with them... but they didnt' give me a chance to switch my skills to running (I use Escape, Dodge, Lightning Reflexes [will be Storm Chaser whenever I get it], Shielding Hands, Troll, Symbol of Wrath to get me unstuck or Mend Condition or Heal Area depending, Vital Blessing, and Mending) so I was stuck with just Escape as a running skill... which at the time lasted for 9 seconds I believe. So we get going, and half of the group is Warriors, along with me... another Ranger, a Necro, and a Monk, and I'm only level 17 at the time. I managed to stay up with or in front of the level 20 Warrior and level 20 Ranger who were up at the lead with me, and I was the only one who made it to/through the Troll Cave, but I died shortly after. We go back into Rankor to get rid of DP, and I'm trying to ask if I can switch my skills but they go back out. So someone sticks up for me and we go back in. I change my skills fast and off we go. This time, 3 or 4 of us made it through the troll cave, but I was still pretty much leading the way. I got lost a little after that point, but some of the dead guys were drawing it out for me, so I found my way to Grenth's with their help. From there, I had to download/load the map, and by the time I got in everyone had already ran off a bit, and I talked to the guy to get the SF quest and then accidentally cast both Vital and Mending on him.... and realized it a little later and re-cast it on myself. Luckily for me, everyone else had run ahead and aggro'd all of the Ice things so all the mind freezes were either used up, or still recharging... so I made it almost all of the way up the cliff until I was almost to the camp. Then I got mind frozen.. which I was afraid of. I almost made it there... but I died just a little short of the portal, but we all ressed at the point. I was proud to show up all of the big warriors with my slightly-squishy ranger butt

To be honest with you, I'm not real sure what you would use with a Ranger/Warrior if you were planning on using a bow. Any skills I would tell you would be better replaced with something else. Only thing's I can think of are maybe using adrenaline based utility shouts/skills (do you get one hit of adrenaline for every shot from barrage?). But problem with using skill like "Watch Yourself" and "Fear Me" with a bow ranger is that you are usually far away from the action, and you're team mates aren't guaranteed to be in range. Heal Sig > Troll Ungent. But anything else you'd use from the warrior skills to augment your bow skills would be overshadowed by other ranger skills. Tiger's Fury > Frenzy/Flurry for example. Only skill I'd be intrested in using would be "Watch Yourself" but again you'd have to make sure you were in a postion that most of your party got the benefit.
IMO = In my opinion.
And Meneldil. Please stop bumping. If people want to say something they'll look this thread out.

Actually, you should consider Flurry/Frenzy as a replacement for Tiger's Fury as Flurry/Frenzy are attribute-less.

I would, when I have time to scrape up my unused R/W Hammer ranger. Totally brand new, but the concept should have been used. I'm not that smart
